So I got a call from my mom yesterday saying her car was making a funny noise and she held up the phone and it sounded like engine death. I told her to have it towed to the shop I like that does Toyota's only. She also said there is a lot of gold fluid on the ground...uh oh. Turns out the VVT-i oil line burst and dump 4 quarts(!) of engine oil while she was driving yesterday. Toyota issued a TSB back for this in 2010, but I guess she didn't get it (my dad was pretty on the ball with that stuff). Good news is that it looks like the engine is okay and no fiery crash was involved but it happened the day after a 400 mile road trip on 80 mph freeways...could have been a LOT worse. IF you have a 2005-2009 Toyota or Lexus with the 2GR-FE engine, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! may be of interest to you. (~1,000,000 vehicles with this engine in this time frame produced)

But, but, I thought the Toyota V6 is the most reliable engine ever!!!

IF there is one thing I've noticed about Toyota motors is that you pay attention to their hoses and routing pipes. They are almost always a source of trouble.

Even the 1fz-fe has the pesky heater hose thats basically the same problem but with coolant instead of oil.

That was a recall forever a go. I personally did about a bazillion of them :]

if I recall (hehe) it wasn't a recall but a "limited service action" or some such wording. Does that ring a bell?

probably, but man I would do like 15 each day. No reason for it to be a metal line.... rubber hose.... then metal end again. It should of just been all metal like the other side. They didn't go out on our Evoras or on Sienna Minivans tho....hmm? Just ES and RX

There's actually an updated TSB that replaces that whole dual pipe/hose assembly with one solid hardline assembly. No more flexible rubber hoses to break.

7M's are dead reliable if you torque the head bolts properly

Yeah, I had 7 7M's in the 3 Supras I had, so I'm pretty familiar with them.
86.5 -> bought with 250k miles (1), engine gave up around 260k, swapped in for a '91 7MGE (2). Developed electrical demons from botched alarm install (previous owner), junked it with 280k miles.
89 -> Previous owner ran it dry, eventually spun a bearing (3), slapped a JDM 7MGE (4) in there, drove amazing until I got the turbo itch and swapped to a 7MGTE with all the goodies (5) eventually sold it because I needed a 4 door/wouldn't pass smog
92-> Bought with blown head gasket (6), immediately swapped in a JDM 7MGE (7) then I swapped that out for a 2JZ-GE. Got creamed in a parking lot a month later.
